The End of Pregnancy as We Know it
We couldn’t wait for the day to arrive, and now that its here, we still can’t believe it.
I am sitting in the hospital room with Kara and she is dilated to 10 cm. We are moments from pushing, moments (probably longer) away from seeing our second child come into this world. As Kara takes a small nap before the hard work comes, I thought that I would update everyone as to what happened today.
This morning we were all ready to come in and be induced at 7:30. Well, that didn’t work out quite so well.
They just didn’t have any beds. (There are 14 delivery beds, and many of them were taken up by moms who had already given birth, but who did not yet have another room to go to on account of the 25 bedrooms being full.) It had been this way for three days.
So, we called at 8:00; they told us to call at 10:00. We called at 10:00, they told us to call at 1:00 (they also might have mentioned that it might not be until 5:00 that they could get us in)…
So Kara and I decided to go to the Original Pancake House and try to get our heads around the disappointment of not going in when we said we were going to. It worked to a certain extent. We were able to get our feelings of excitement and finality back up, but we had to make sure that we would be starting the process today, no matter what.
But thankfully it didn’t take any waiting room heroics. They told us that we could come in at 3:00. So, we did.
We were admitted to the corner room, with a view. I can’t believe how lucky we are to live in such a place as this and have a child in such an environment.
More to come…
